Why Should I Attend?

Meaningful connections between citizens and government or company and client can only be forged with a firm commitment to openness, transparency and quality service. The purposes of Access to Information and Privacy acts are to make government more open and accountable while ensuring the protection of personal information held in trust by public bodies. The private sector shares this same accountability.

While technology has been a key enabler for service improvement across all levels of government, it inherently makes all public servants responsible for addressing the access and privacy challenges presented by a more open and accountable public institution. Hence, a corresponding need exists to educate the public sector as a whole and establish responsible practices. These practices can take shape in the form of inter-departmental education, developed policies on handling requests, and workshops like this.

The Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, as well as the Office of the Ombudsman of New Brunswick, the Nova Scotia Review Office and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of PEI are proud to present the 4th Annual Maritime Access & Privacy Workshop. Experienced FOI/privacy professionals will have the opportunity to hone their skills with challenging advanced topics while those who are new to the field or encounter it less often can build a solid grounding in the fundamentals with comprehensive introductory sessions.

With over 20 sessions available, carefully slotted into several themed streams, this event will appeal to any individual, public or private sector, who finds him/herself dealing with Access to Information & Privacy issues. We strongly encourage you to join us this June if your work involves access, privacy, information and information technology, human resources, communications, policy development, records management or design of new government programs.
