Why should I attend?

PHIPA is intended to strike the right balance between the legitimate need of health professionals to collect, use or disclose personal health information and the need to maintain the confidentiality of such sensitive information. It attempts to accomplish this by giving individuals greater control over how their personal information is handled while, at the same time, providing health information professionals with a flexible framework to access and use health information as necessary; however only within the health care system.

Though rapidly approaching its first anniversary, PHIPA is nevertheless a new piece of legislation. The summit will offer the healthcare community of Ontario the chance to further enhance their training with both case studies as well as plenary lectures. The PHIPA Summit will also provide an opportunity for the health provider community to share their own experiences with PHIPA over the last year, to learn best practices and to participate in spirited debate and discussion with field leaders.
