Why should I attend?

PIPA has been in force in Alberta and British Columbia since January 1st, 2004.

PIPA's purpose is to govern the means by which organizations handle personal information in a manner that recognizes both the right of an individual to have his or her personal information protected and the need of organizations to collect, use or disclose personal information for purposes that are reasonable.

Sounds simple, right? Not exactly.

Organizations across British Columbia and Alberta have put in a lot of effort to ensure compliance with these laws as they rapidly approach their third anniversaries. However, these laws are still relatively new and a continued effort across both provinces is needed to maintain the momentum.

Private Sector Privacy in a Changing World is a one-of-a-kind learning opportunity whether your organization has built a detailed compliance program, in the midst of implementing its strategy, or just getting started. It will offer the business and non-profit communities across British Columbia and Alberta the chance to enhance their training with an exciting mix of case studies, plenary lectures, and expert led sessions. PIPA Conference 2007, the second annual conference of its kind, will also provide an opportunity for these communities to share their own experiences with PIPA over the last 3 years and to participate in spirited debate and discussion with field leaders.

Finally, it is an invaluable opportunity to meet and engage in a dialogue with the regulatory bodies. We look forward to seeing you on September 20th & 21st, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
