Web 2.0 and Social Networking

This interactive, half-day workshop will outline everything you need to know to provide solid IM advice to business clients and your management when the need for Web 2.0 is raised. Join fellow IM and IA professionals for this entertaining and practical workshop that will provide:

  • A review of the tools that are in greatest demand in the GoC (often from senior management) and how each tool can be characterized (i.e. collaboration vs. networking)
  • Specific benefits that they offer and how to differentiate between them (i.e. collaboration for document -building versus collaboration for project management versus  discussion etc…)
  • Enviro-scan of use of web 2.0 tools in various Canadian Government contexts
  • Exploration of the key IM challenges of different Web 2.0 tools
  • Exploration of the need for strategies, policies and guidelines regarding Web 2.0 use in the Federal Government

About Your Workshop Facilitator

Linda Daniels-Lewis is a Senior Consultant in Ottawa with more than twenty (20) years experience in the private and public sectors as an Information Management Specialist, Information Architect, and Business Analyst. While at Alcatel (formerly Newbridge Networks), she won the prestigious Innovation Award and has continued to provide transformative information management solutions for clients. Since joining the Information Management team at Systemscope, Ms Daniels-Lewis has focussed on working with clients to develop robust information management strategies and plans that comply with government policies and align with Management Accountability Framework (MAF) reporting requirements, while supporting a culture change to embrace new approaches to classification and new processes and technologies (Web 2.0) for collaboration. She has recently worked with several GC departments assessing the impact of new online collaboration tools and Web 2.0 technologies, and developing Web 2.0 and wiki strategies.

Rebecca Soper is a Consultant in Systemscope's Information Management Practice. With a traditional IM background based in Library and Information Science, Ms. Soper brings her knowledge of library and information organizational theory and practice to the IM realm. She has worked with a number of federal government clients offering support on GC IM projects such as the development of IM training and awareness strategies and programs, IM policy and supporting instrument development, and was recently involved in a project that explored the possibilities for wiki use as a collaboration strategy.
