I would like to personally welcome everyone who is attending our special conference – Youth Privacy Online: Take Control, Make It Your Choice! – that my office is hosting on Thursday, September 4, at the Marriott Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto. We are providing a forum for discussion, debate and inquiry that will focus on exploring a variety of approaches to safeguarding the privacy of children and youth on the Internet.
Online social networking, and innumerable other interactive applications on the Internet, have become a part of everyday life for youth today. However, there are growing concerns that many young people do not fully understand the risks associated with revealing too much information about themselves – risks that range from cyberbullying, identity theft and Internet luring, to putting future job prospects at risk.
This conference will bring together professionals from a diverse range of public and private sector organizations that have a keen interest in helping children and youth protect their privacy online.
